Frequently asked questions about AMSOIL Extended Life Synthetic Oil From People Like You

I haven’t heard of AMSOIL

AMSOIL is not a mass-market brand. We are a brand for enthusiasts, with strong brand loyalty among millions of enthusiasts who are aware of the AMSOIL brand. Enthusiasts are passionate about their vehicles, and value the increased protection that AMSOIL products can provide. AMSOIL products have been available since 1972, when AMSOIL 10W-40 Synthetic Motor Oil became the first synthetic motor oil to meet American Petroleum Institute (API) service requirements. Today, AMSOIL manufactures synthetic lubricants for virtually all automotive, powersports, commercial and industrial applications.

Does AMSOIL Extended Life Synthetic Motor Oil Protect Against Low Speed Pre-Ignition?

YES.  AMSOIL Extended-Life Motor Oil features unique chemistry to guard engines against the harmful effects of low-speed pre-ignition (LSPI). LSPI is the spontaneous ignition of the fuel/air mixture prior to sparktriggered ignition. Most new engines feature gasoline direct injection (GDI), often coupled with a turbocharger. These technologies heighten the possibility of LSPI events, which can destroy pistons and connecting rods. AMSOIL XL (Extended-Life Motor Oil) meets ILSAC GF-6 standards and is designed to protect engines from LSPI.

Can AMSOIL synthetic motor oils be used for all-seasions?

YES. Because AMSOIL synthetic motor oils are formulated with premium synthetic base oils, they provide superior high and low-temperature performance. Synthetic oils resist thinning out at high temperatures to maintain critical protection in extreme heat. They also minimize sludge and deposit formation in high-temperature operation. AMSOIL synthetic motor oils resist thickening in cold temperatures to provide rapid cold starts and improved low-temperature operation compared to conventional oils.

Will extending oil drain intervals void my vehicle’s warranty?

No. Using AMSOIL synthetic lubricants or practicing extended drain intervals does not void your new vehicle or equipment manufacturer’s warranty. All AMSOIL lubricants and filters are covered by the AMSOIL Limited Warranty. For complete information visit AMSOIL.com/warranty.aspx.

Upon what driving conditions are these performance claims based? Normal or severe driving conditions?

Normal Service – Up to 20,000 miles (32,000 km) or one year, whichever comes first, in personal vehicles not operating under severe service. Severe Service – Up to 12,000 miles (20,000 km) or one year, whichever comes first. Severe service conditions include commercial or fleet vehicles; excessive idling; or frequent towing, hauling, plowing or driving in dusty conditions.
• Modified engines (non-stock), racing vehicles and vehicles using alternative fuels (E85, CNG, propane, etc.) are excluded from extended drain interval recommendations.
• Change at the vehicle manufacturer’s recommended drain interval outside U.S. and Canada.
• AMSOIL Oil Filters are designed for extended drain intervals. Do not exceed 12,000 miles (20,000 km) or one year with other brand filters unless longer intervals are recommended by the vehicle manufacturer. Always change filter when changing oil.
• Check oil regularly to maintain proper fill levels. AMSOIL Oil Filters stop smaller particles, flow more oil and last longer than regular filters. For best performance, use AMSOIL Oil Filters.

What are "normal" and "severe" driving conditions?

Each vehicle manufacturer defines "normal" and "severe" driving conditions for its equipment; AMSOIL recommends owners check these definitions in their owner’s manual to determine the service condition in which they typically drive.

AMSOIL defines normal service as personal vehicles frequently traveling greater than 10 miles (16 km) at a time and not operating under severe service.

AMSOIL defines severe service for gasoline engines as turbo/supercharged engines, commercial or fleet vehicles, excessive idling, first-time use of AMSOIL synthetic motor oil in vehicles with over 100,000 miles without prior continuous use of AMSOIL synthetic motor oil, daily short-trip driving less than 10 miles (16 km), frequent towing, plowing, hauling or dusty-condition driving.

AMSOIL defines severe service for diesel engines as extensive engine idling, daily short-trip driving less than 10 miles (16km) or frequent dusty-condition driving.

See the AMSOIL Product Recommendation and Drain Interval Chart for additional information.

Do I have to use an AMSOIL Ea Oil Filter with AMSOIL synthetic motor oil?

No. You can use whichever brand of filter you choose and AMSOIL synthetic motor oils will still be guaranteed to protect your vehicle for the advertised period. However, you will need to change your oil filter according to the filter manufacturer’s recommendations and top off the oil.

I understand AMSOIL synthetic motor oil resists boiling off in high temperatures. Do I still need to check the oil level in my car between oil changes?

Yes. It is normal for vehicles to use some motor oil. AMSOIL recommends checking your oil level every time you fill your fuel tank.
